A Long and Tangled Saga is a painstaking and independent account of the famous Pairc Estate community buyout which has become a landmark case in the history of land reform in Scotland. It describes in detail the many challenges faced by the small Pairc community in seeking to purchase their estate in a remote part of the Isle of Lewis.

It sets out conclusions and lessons to be learned from this 13-year-long but ultimately successful struggle.

In 2022 it was shortlisted for Scotland’s most prestigious national book awards, better known as The Saltire Prize. There are six literary categories and this book was shortlisted in the research category.
