Solving the Lewis Land Problem
Fishermen-cottar schemes were unique to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in the 1920s and 1930s. Over 200 holdings were created in six schemes alongside the numerous crofting schemes that were formed during the same period. They had an important impact on improving living and housing conditions on the island. This book examines the planning and implementation of these six schemes for the first time.
